Structure and form of space frame node

The node structure of the space frame should meet the following requirements:

(1) Reasonable force, clear transmission force, be sure to make the node structure and the calculation assumptions conformed as much as possible, make the node safe and reliable;

(2) Ensure that the junction bar intersects at one point and no additional bending moment is generated;

(3) Simple structure, easy to fabricate, easy to install;

(4) Low consumption of steel and low cost

Many forms of nodes in the grid. divided by connection mode of nodes, there are:

(1) Weld connections. It is divided into butt weld joint and fillet weld joint;

(2) Bolt connections. It can be divided into tension high strength bolt connection and friction high strength bolt connection;

Divided by the structure of nodes, there are mainly:

(1) Cross steel plate joint. It is developed from plane truss joint, the pipe is composed of Angle steel, and can be connected to the joint steel plate with fillet weld or high strength bolt;

(2) It is composed of two hot pressed hemispheres and then butt welded into hollow balls, The rod is welded to the sphere, butt weld or fillet weld can be used for bar and spherical joint welds, The rod is composed of steel tubes.

(3) Bolt ball joint. It is through the bolt, sleeve and other parts to connect the rod and solid ball. The rod is composed of steel tubes.

(4) Direct interchange node. It is to machined the end of the ventral rod (branch tube) in the network frame into a intersecting surface, and then directly welded to the chord rod (main tube) wall, or to weld a directional chord on another chord tube wall, this node avoids the use of any connectors. Save the amount of steel used in the joints, but require high assembly precision. The rod is composed of steel or square tubes.

After many years of engineering practice, the most commonly used forms of joints are bolt-ball joints and welded hollow ball joints.
